Post-Christmas Game Plan
Our Leisure Supervisor Callum shares his top 3 tips for getting back on track after a little (or a lot) of Christmas indulgence
Have you taken some time off training over Christmas? Don’t worry - this doesn’t mean you will lose everything you have already worked for. Taking a few days off can do you good.
Don’t think that you have now started on the downwards spiral of getting unfit - think positive and let’s get ready for your big return.
Tip 1 – Let’s goal set for the new year! Before returning to the gym and to your fitness routine, think of a few short term 1-to-3 month goals that you would like to achieve. Make these goals realistic and not too far out of reach. This could be adding 5kg to your weighted lifts or running 5k again, something small that will give you back your initial drive.
Tip 2 – Improve your accountability. Tell you friend, your partner or your family that you have started going back to the gym and that you are working towards new goals. This will accelerate your accountability, just by sharing your goals and actions with loves ones who will help to keep pushing you.
Tip 3 - Don’t focus on the scales, instead think about how your clothes fit and how you look in the mirror. Don’t let a few extra lbs affect your motivation. We too easily get caught up in the numbers and it becomes a never-ending mind game. Focus on how you feel.
Good luck on your New Year's journey and if you need any help with an exercise or training plan, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the gym team. We are here to support you every step of the way.
